Five years. Where has the time gone? It seems just like yesterday I was marching with a bunch of people to protest the start of the war. Then just yesterday there was another march. But I didn't go. Nothing against protest, and props to all the people who could make it. But we need whole institutions rebelling against this thing. We need employers – public and private – telling their employees, "Take today off to fill the streets and riot against this stupid thing." Otherwise I don't see people taking time off work to protest a war in the midst of a recession. Too much fear.
Of course, if these get even worse, we'll have armies of the unemployed swarming the streets. But I'm not banking on that.
